In the 11th century, Benedictine monks in the Taggia region already started cultivating olives. The Taggiascha olive thrives mostly on terraced mountains at altitudes of about 400-700 metres. This makes it almost impossible to use larger tools for sowing or harvesting. The olives are harvested by hand with much effort and passion.
With its mild and nutty taste, the Taggiascha olive is reminiscent of pine nuts, which makes it very popular with gourmets. This makes this variety a popular snack and its beige to dark brown colour makes it an eye-catcher on your antipasti platter.
